Work by
Evelyn Papp
Initially inspired by Italian
medieval ceramics, my pots are painted using maiolica style decoration.
Biscuit fired to 975 degrees C, they are then dipped into a soft tin
glaze and decorated with oxides and body stains. I use brush strokes,
sponges and sgraffito (scratch markings through top layer to expose
glaze below). Graphic imagery comes from various sources including
marine life, floral, geometric and historical. I glaze fire to 1110
degrees C. Lately I have been adding touches of gold/bronze lustre
which require a further firing to a lower temperature of 750 degrees C.
