Work by
Christine Curnow
After studying as a mature
student at The University of Derby I graduated with B.A. (Hons) Degree
in Applied Art in 1997. I now produce ceramic pieces in a
studio/workshop based in my own home. Although my specialist area
is ceramics, I also design and work with mixed media.
The techniques I am
currently using include the initial production of modular plaster
moulds, which are interchangable. Press moulding is then used to assist
with the hand and slab building. I use a variety of stoneware clay
bodies ( the colour of the clay being of primary importance ), and
these can be combined to produce varied effects. The use of glaze is
kept to a minimum and surface decoration is usually in the form of body
stains, oxides and slip.
